Overview
Proplex-T is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to control and prevent bleeding in adults with hemophilia B. Proplex-T may also be used for perioperative (before, during, and after surgery) care. Proplex-T is typically prescribed in cases where fresh frozen plasma is ineffective. The technical name of Proplex-T is Factor IX complex, heat treated (human).
Proplex-T is a clotting factor. Clotting factors work by supplying proteins missing in people with hemophilia.
How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Proplex-T is given as an intravenous injection.
Proplex-T comes as a powder that must be reconstituted before injection.
Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Proplex-T lists common side effects including chills, nausea, vomiting, flushed skin, a tingling sensation, and pain at the injection site.
Rare but serious side effects listed for Proplex-T include severe hypersensitivity reactions and the transmission of infections.
